James H. Wooten,
Jr. is Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of Illinois Tool
Works Inc. (
ITW), a Fortune 200 diversified manufacturer of
highly engineered components and industrial systems and consumables. With $13.9
billion in revenues, ITW is a multinational manufacturer of a diversified range
of value-adding and short lead-time industrial products and equipment. The
Company consists of 840 business units in 57 countries and employs some 59,000
people.
Mr. Wooten
joined ITW in 1988 as Senior Attorney.
He was named Associate General Counsel in 2000, and in 2005, he was
promoted to Vice President & General Counsel. In 2006, Mr. Wooten was
elected to the position of Senior Vice President, General Counsel &
Secretary of ITW. In this role, he is responsible for the legal, environmental
health and safety, risk management and government affairs departments. Prior
to joining ITW, Mr. Wooten was an Associate with the law firm formerly known as
Gardner, Carton & Douglas.
He holds a J.D.
degree from the University of Chicago and a B.S. degree in criminal justice from
the University of Illinois
Mr. Wooten is a
member of the Executive Leadership Council, Minority Corporate Counsel
Association, the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the
Association of Corporate Counsel and the Society of Corporate Secretaries and
Governance Professionals. Mr. Wooten is a member of the Board of Directors of
Children's Memorial Hospital, Congo Square Theatre, Window to the World
Communications, Inc. (WWCI), Board of Institute for Inclusion in the Legal
Profession and University of Illinois at Chicago LAS Advisory Board. Mr. Wooten is a member of The Leadership
Council on Legal Diversity, Junior Achievement and CLO Roundtable.
